Free Wi-Fi in Buenos Aires
One reader was asking about where to find places that had Wi-Fi, so perhaps we can all name a few places we know to help her out.

I am here in Buenos Aires finalmente! I am curious if you know of any good places/cafes that offer free wireless internet? In San Francisco they are everywhere, but I haven't found one here yet. Thanks so much!
LA NACION Master List
Check this link for a PDF file you can print out. This is a list put together by LA NACION that has a few Wi-Fi locations. Of course, nothing compares to San Francisco, so just forget about that. You've been spoiled by all the free Wi-Fi they have there in San Francisco, so its time to come back to reality for a minute. Besides, if you're in need of an internet fix, there are locutorios everywhere.

You're exactly right about the limited free wi-fi in Buenos Aires, let alone in the entire country. Based on my own travel, and that of my clients, such a luxury is offered only at some restaurants, cafes, and five-star hotels. While on the rise, do not expect Bs As to compare to San Francisco or other major cities just yet.

I once maintained a BsAs-specific directory of wi-fi hotspots, but it never really gathered steam, so I dropped it.
One good bet is to go to http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar. They have a link to restaurants with wi-fi.

Not BA-related, but I thought this might be of interest. Rosario has a project to become a "digital city" by 2010.
This interview with a city council member explicitly mentions San Francisco, which our mayor visited not long ago. In my experience these grand projects often end in nothing, but this looks doable at least on a limited scale.
Wi-Fi access is now available at any subte (subway) station. The only exception is the line A, but this should change soon.
Hey, I am thinking of going to BA and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how fast the broadband download/upload speeds are? I am used to 30Mbps down/5Mbps up , and wondering if B-A is close to that or not.

Also, are there any companies in BA that rent you access to a T1 line, together with a small office space ? This question comes from a day-trader who wants to trade online from BA.

Bar Seis (Palermo).
Big Mamma on Juramento in Belgrano.
Perisco also has wifi and has multiple locations.

I am an Argentine native in my early 50's. I left Argentina shortly after graduating from engineering school in 1980 and have lived in the US for 27 years!. A lifetime later, my wife and I are just 4 years from having an "empty nest" (both our children will have graduated from university). I am seriously considering "retiring" back to the place I was born and raised. I found this blog yesterday and it seems great, but I am concerned that the most recent posting seems to be almost 3 months old. Is this still active?

Not sure if this is still relevant, but I just got back from a week in Buenos Aires and found wifi spots everywhere. Especially in Palermo Hollywood.
