A Note from Jammer and Mendoza Expatriada

Hello! We are looking forward to sharing our experience with you as we make the move from Texas to Mendoza, Argentina. There are many things that this move will entail, and we hope that our experience moving a family (with pets) will help anyone else who may be thinking about moving to Argentina. We also hope it will make interesting reading!

We welcome your questions and continued comments, some of the most lively discussions on this blog have been in the comments of a post when readers were actively participating. Please let us know what you would like to read about, and what topics you would like covered. We will also do our best to answer any questions you send in to us. If we don't know the answer, we'll find somebody who does.

We look forward to keeping the Expat Argentina blog buzzing with new posts and discussions. This blog will continue to be the best resource online for anyone considering moving to Argentina, or for anyone living in Argentina as an expatriate.

Quick question out of interest - as a newcomer to Argentina, why Mendoza and not Buenos Aires ? Is it the city life itself, climate or business opportunties ? I am a great fan of Mendoza but not sure I could live there.

To my friends Expat, Mdz Expat, and Jammer: Adding new contributors to the blog is a great idea. It is always nice to have new perspectives. I moved to Argentina in 1999 where I spent a few years in Salta and Tucumán. While there, I met my wife, a native of the Mendoza area. While we both now live back in the US, we return to Argentina each year to visit the family and explore the countryside. Mendoza is beautiful, and coming from someone in the travel industry, it is a wise decision to move there. The tourism sector is booming, and with all the investments poured into the wine industry, the local economy is strong and the province is flourishing. In fact, I was just in NYC last week providing presentations on Argentina tourism and Mendoza to VIP clients. As a small business owner connected with Argentina, I also plan to move back to the Cuyo region in January 2008. My wife and I, with our newborn son and Boston Terrier, understand the lengthy process involved. Luckily, with so much previous experience in the region, we hope things will progress smoothly for us. Argentina is my second home and the people could not be more wonderful. If you want to move, go for it, and make it happen. Sometimes life is all about pursuing a dream and seeing what happens. Argentina is absolutely beautiful, and for anyone seeking insight regarding the country, write me at admin@imagineArgentina.com....un abrazo!

I'm leaving Austin for Argentina this fall. I'd love to swap emails and gain some insight on Mendoza versus BsAs. How do we talk "offline" from this blog? (assuming you have a bit of time)

Jammer and Cineman:

I live in Texas too (DFW area) and I am moving my family down to BsAs at the end of Aug. Would love to swap emails with both of you on your experience with the pre-move hassles. (Also info on where we can catch UT games this fall and other vital tips.)

I would like to know about shops in the area. I am trying to get prices for building supplies, furniture, clothing, and activities like dancing lessons, swimming lessons, etc. I can't seem to find any really good link online and it is getting frustrating. My fiance and I are planning on moving to the Mendoza area with his two kids in about 5 to 6 months time, and I want to make sure that I have everything planned to a T, with a contingency factor planned for. So, I am trying to get prices now in order to start the beginning plans for us. If anyone can help, stores names, websites, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
